Fog. Fog, fog, fog... We asked for cloudy or sunny, we get fog. Ah, the joys of location shooting.

All for now.

Well, this is my first entry and that is hard to believe. I expected Todd to be all over me for some kind of input. The truth is, this whole thing has been so involved and huge that it had left me mostly speechless. I've recovered from the shock enough now to say a few things, although I don't know how profound or interesting it'll be.

I come from the world of theatre, not film or even video. When I met Jesse back in 1991 (?) I was with my college theatre group seeing a production at Jesse's College in "Little Town", Rhode Island. In the days to come he told me all about his video movie project called "Townsend" that he and his good friends, including Jesse Moore were working on. He showed me the script and I was impressed, but I also thought, "how different could that be from a play?" Well it wasn't until years later when we decided to do "Strike My Key" that I even BEGAN to see how different film is from theatre...and now, well, I am sure that they are two different worlds. In theatre, the story IS the world. You create a world and live in it through rehearsals and research of the time period etc. In film, the production itself is the world, and it is highly complex and all encompasing, such that you could spend a whole day on the set and never see one take. When I was in theatre in college I didn't understand how anyone could stand to be off in the costume room or in the scene shop, when clearly (at least to me) the place to be is on the stage.

On this project I managed to end up Jesse's asst. so I get to be there, right on stage, where the action is. I am glad about that, I don't know how else I would survive the Hurry Up and Wait and the general craziness that goes on if I didn't get the treat of seeing these kids do their amazing performances everyday!

Well that's all I can manage to write at the moment!

Cheers!

Todd Howard, Producer

It is my intent to encourage lots of other people to begin making entries in this journal who have not yet done so. Let's see who I can get...

I can't wait to see more dailies. We have only seen the footage from the first three days, and tonight, we will have dailies from Thursday, Friday and Saturday of last week. Lots of good stuff in there. I can't wait indeed.

More soon,

-Todd
